In the early twentieth century, Ralph Vaughan Williams, George Butterworth, Percy Grainger and Cecil Sharp all set off across the byways of England to capture a treasury of song from the villagers they met. The five singers of Opus Anglicanum make a welcome return to Thaxted to recreate the tapestry of this folksong heritage, with narration by BBC Radio Four’s Zeb Soanes. This is sure to be a memorable evening which will resonate with Thaxted’s long association with English folk music, and its connections through Gustav Holst and Vaughan Williams to this tradition. This concert is sponsored by Friends of Thaxted Festival who wish to remain anonymous.
